We are looking for a food preservationist for the production of our pickling and preserving of seasonal fruits and vegetables according to established guidelines and recipes. Southport Grocery is a 10 time winner of the Good Food Award (Good Food Foundation). Note that hours fluctuate based on seasonality.
Tasks include:
Produce prep, including selection, washing, peeling and cutting
Proper jar handling
Labeling, dating
Product costing
Ph testing and documentation
Time and temp recording (HAACP documentation)
Maintain an efficient and effective work style such as:
Clean-as-you-go
Self motivated
General cleanliness of the kitchen prep tables and equipment
Proper handling of ingredients including proper labeling, rotation; shelving
Identify and execute re-ordering of all ingredients and supplies
Proactively identify staffing needs for peak times
Skills required:
Preservationist experience, one year minimum
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Food Sanitation Certificate
Good verbal communication skills
Previous work experience exemplifying punctuality and flexibility, cost concern and safe food handling
Able to stand for long periods of time, lift 50#; climb stairs
Flexible work schedule that coincides with the growing season
Southport Grocery and Cafe is boutique grocery and cafe serving breakfast and lunch. All menu items are made from scratch including preserving such as fruit preserves, mustards, fermented vegetable, soda syrup, pickles; these items are also available on our grocery shelves.
