Metal Fabricator / Welder

. Creates joining welds on steel and stainless steel items using a variety of processes (manual arc, tungsten inert gas, metallic inert gas, brazing, etc.) for the purpose of creating make-to-order and design-to order metal finishing equipment.

. Cut various metal items (e.g. square tube, round bar, flats, etc.) from stock lengths for the purpose of creating weldments per supplied drawings.

. Drill, tap and/or thread various metal items (e.g. flats, tubes, bars,

etc.) for use in subsequent weldments and/or use in other areas of the shop.

. Maintains department equipment, tools, etc. for the purpose of ensuring the availability and functioning of required items and ensuring safety.

. Coordinates with shop administration for the purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently.

. Requests equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of required items.

. Assists other shop personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.

. Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.

. Some installation of stairs and railings in the field.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

SKILLS are required to perform single, technical tasks. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include:

operating equipment used in welding and metal fabrication including band saws, grinders, drill press, benders, chop saw, etc.; planning and managing projects; and adhering to safety practices.

KNOWLEDGE is required to read and interpret supplied part and assembly drawings, present information to others, and solve practical problems.

Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: methods, techniques, materials, tools used in metal fabrication and welding, maintenance, and repair; and safety practices and procedures.

ABILITY is required to consider a wide variety of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined and similar processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. In working with others, problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include:

adapting to changing work priorities; meeting deadlines and schedules; and working as part of a team.

RESPONSIBILITY: Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods. Utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions. There is some opportunity to have significant impact on the Organization's services.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, and/or crouching. Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 20% walking, and 70% standing. The job is performed indoors.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to High School diploma or equivalent and three years of responsible metal fabrication experience.

MUST HAVE A VALID DRIVERS LICENSE
