SummaryThe Physician assigned to a Multidisciplinary Home-Based Primary Care (HBPC) Team, is directly responsible to and will be supervised by the Home Based Primary Care Medical Director. The main responsibility of the Psychiatrist will be to function as an independent provider for clinical psychiatric services within the Iowa City VA HCS HBPC Program stationed at the Quincy Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC).ResponsibilitiesCommon duties of the position include, but are not limited to the following: Obtain an appropriate health history and physical examination on patients who present to the Home-Based Primary Care Team, Urgent Care, and other assigned clinical areas as appropriate. Assessing and providing treatments for subclinical symptoms of dysphoria and anxiety, adjustment difficulties, & excessive use or misuse of alcohol or other drugs (for which the patient may have a lower than normal tolerance due to their medical conditions and the potential for negative interactions with prescribed medication). Routine home visits to evaluate the patient are required. Interpret the history and clinical findings, order laboratory tests, radiographic studies, ancillary tests and requested consultations within the context of the psychiatric illness and to further evaluate the patient and arrive at a differential diagnosis and treatment plan. Maintain appropriate and timely documentation in the medical record of clinical services performed to include the completion of clinical reminders and alerts. Evaluate the health needs of the population referred for management of mental health diseases and develop strategies to optimally care for this population within the resource limitations that exist. Assist the HBPC Medical Director, in the administrative duties of the Extended Care and Rehabilitation Service Line including tasks with participation on committees, quality assurance and management of clinics as needed. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Physical requirements outlined below. Preferred Experience: 1. Strong mentoring skills and experience working with a multidisciplinary team.

Extensive psychiatric experience treating a complex patient population.

Board certified with at least 3 years of current Psychiatric practice. Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard.
