Position Summary:

The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame and provides care to these patients via the utilization of the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, financial and human resources within the philosophy of the institution.

Qualifications:

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Associates Nursing or College Diploma Nursing CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS Registered Professional Nurse (RN) License Illinois upon hire and EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Minimum of one year experience in the operating room ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Attend and satisfactorily complete all required continuing education regarding the care of acute stroke patients.

Essential Functions:

Performs all responsibilities and duties required by unit as specific to the scope of service. Implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice. Maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to assure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team.

Completes initial assessment upon patient admission and develops appropriate plan of care in accordance with unit standards and that is based on patient and family needs. Implements plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. Modifies plan of care based upon continuous evaluation.

Takes responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents.

Communicates with others directly and in private when necessary to resolve issues. Offers constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers, and confers with colleagues to expand knowledge base. Identifies own learning needs and takes initiative to begin appropriate solution.

Fulfills all requirements of departmental competencies.

PRE/POST- Complete the patient assessment reflecting patient condition and document data in Epic.

OR- RN circulator is dedicated to each patient, serving as their advocate and responsible for their safety during the operative procedure.

PRE/POST- Recognize normal and abnormal findings and notifies physician appropriately.

OR- Responsible for all documentation of surgical procedure and specimen collection in EPIC.

PRE/POST- Establish plan of care for patient and set goals.

OR- Delegates, supervises and evaluates the activities of other team members, as well as simultaneously executing immediate directives and interventions in urgent or emergent situations.

PRE/POST- Establish IV on patients over 8 years of age and practices 5 rights of medication administration for all patients.

OR- Maintains sterility of the OR, including strict aseptic and sterile technique.

PRE/POST- Participate in time out process with OR RN.

OR- Participates in time out process with pre-op RN and initiates time out process in the OR prior to the start of the procedure.

OR, PRE/POST- Create and schedule cases, document pre-op/post-op phone calls in EPIC.

POST-OP- Responsible for documentation of patient's recovery and discharge process in EPIC.
