Position Purpose:In a team environment with multi-craft skillsets the Operator I is responsible for understanding the physical and chemical functions of treatment processes and applying their particular experience and skills to perform routine operational activities, evaluate process performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement changes to improve process conditions as needed. This position is responsible for multiple unit processes in an Industrial facility to achieve and satisfy the necessary operational requirements. This position performs full operations of industrial utility services including but not limited to waste water treatment, steam boilers, high temperature hot water boilers, water filtration, and all associated support equipment.  Performs predictive and corrective maintenance of all process equipment contributing in one or more skilled areas such as pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, instrumentation, PLC logic, and mechanical maintenance.Primary Duties/Responsibilities:Operates equipment manually and through instrumentation panels, computer terminals and programmable logic control units following process control procedures. Monitors and observes operating conditions, records observations and data in shift log. Diagnoses basic operational problems and takes corrective action per procedure.Adhere to safety practices and procedures while conducting operational functions including but not limited to:Chemical deliveriesChemical process applicationsSolids handlingHazardous waste generationHousekeeping activitiesSample collectionRoutine laboratory testingInventory managementMaintenance activities on pipes, pumps, valves, motors, mixers, tanks, etc.Electrical instrumentation calibration checks and maintenancePractices good housekeeping in assigned areas and properly disposes of waste according to safety and environmental policies.Performs manual labor including cleaning equipment, facilities and grounds as required.Operates vehicles, mobile equipment and material handling equipment for operational and maintenance purposes.Perform precision alignments, systematic lubrication, fluid changes, and the replacement of critical mechanical components.Troubleshoot equipment failures and execute necessary technical repairs to ensure operational continuity.Execute detailed inspections of system components to evaluate process performance and integrity.Coordinate contractor activities while ensuring process operations are maintained.Calibrate, maintain, and apply lab and field equipment and instrumentation, including pH meters, specific ion meters, analytical balances, furnaces, ovens, pipettes, titrators, and automatic samplers.Collects water, wastewater, industrial waste, groundwater, sludge, residuals and/or gas samples according to schedule. Performs field tests (chemical, physical and biological) in order to pace chemical dosages for process and odor control units. Prepares chemical solutions, monitors supplies and recommends reorder.Inspect flow meters, gauges, flow ratios, pressures and related controls on instrument panels, computer terminals and programmable logic control units and diagnoses basic operational problems. Takes corrective action per procedure in the assigned area. Verifies and reports suspected malfunctions and variances to the supervisor.Monitors process bulk chemical supplies and recommends reorder.Must demonstrate ability to learn and independently operate equipment.Learn and support operations for the areas of his/her responsibility.Control and create documents within the Utilities departments, and maintain the department.Record and respond to client concerns related to the Utility department and inform management.Prepare, review, and modify procedures related to the Utilities department.Report the department’s performance status, and quality improvements to the Operations and Maintenance Manager.Must demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily.Work Environment:Spends 75% in an operations environment and 25% in an office setting.May be exposed to possible operations hazards including fumes, toxic and caustic chemicals, heavy machinery, high pressure, hot or cold work environment temperatures, slippery surfaces, water hazards and electrical equipment.Shifts are 12 hours on a rotating schedule between days and nights with a 4-on-4-off structure.
