Serves as the first-line engineer manager

Plans, develops, coordinates, and directs a number of large, complex, important and high-profile projects and programs

Use of specialized technical engineering functions related to hydraulics, hydrology, geotechnical engineering, coastal engineering, hydraulic dredging, and earthwork

Provides regular updates to the Engineering Chief

Supervises and coordinates assignments of subordinate staff

Serves as quality manager for in-house design deliverables and bid packages

Required Skills:

Extensive engineering experience in the field of civil and coastal engineering

Ability to anticipate technical issues for which there may be very little precedent

Ability to balance economic, environmental and social considerations of topics which may be very controversial

Ability to make decisions in a timely manner and resolve project-related issues

Strong communication skills, including public speaking

Three years of licensed engineering experience.

Seven years of professional engineering experience.

SUBSTITUTIONS:

A master's degree in engineering will substitute for one year of the required experience.

A Ph.D. in engineering will substitute for two years of the required experience.

Advanced degrees will substitute for a maximum of two years of required experience.

NOTE:

Engineering experience gained while licensed as a professional engineer will be accepted as licensed engineering experience.

Engineering experience gained after earning an ABET-accredited degree and prior to earning a professional engineer’s license (e.g., as an engineer intern applicant, engineer intern, or equivalent) will be accepted as professional level engineering experience.

NOTE:

Applications will be accepted from persons licensed to practice professional engineering in states other than Louisiana. If one of those applicants is selected for the position, he/she will be required to obtain a Louisiana license prior to appointment.
