SUBSTITUTIONS: Training as a mechanic from a trade school, vocational-technical school, or military school will substitute for the required experience. Training will be credited in six month increments. Job ConceptsFUNCTION OF WORK: To provide assistance and guidance to lower level personnel as needed to accomplish repair work. LEVEL OF WORK: Advanced. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Direct from a Mechanic Supervisor or higher level maintenance personnel. SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Typically functional over Mechanics, Helpers, and Apprentices. LOCATION OF WORK: May be used by all state agencies. JOB DISTINCTIONS: Differs from Mechanic 3 by the presence of lead worker responsibilities. Differs from Mechanic Supervisor A by the absence of direct supervisory responsibility. Examples of WorkEXAMPLES BELOW ARE A BRIEF SAMPLE OF COMMON DUTIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS JOB TITLE. NOT ALL POSSIBLE TASKS ARE INCLUDED. Performs the duties as enumerated for Mechanic 3. Directs the sequence of work and assigns tasks to subordinates. Works with and sets the pace of work for assigned subordinates. Assures that adequate supplies and equipment are available for subordinates. Provides guidance and assists lower level mechanics. Performs quality assurance/analysis on repaired vehicles and equipment. May inspect work performed by contract vendors. May operate wrecker to recover and transport inoperative vehicles.
