Job ConceptsFUNCTION OF WORK:To manage construction and/or maintenance activities related to related to transportation infrastructure.LEVEL OF WORK:Manager.SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Broad review from a higher-level Engineer. Other reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.SUPERVISION EXERCISED:Direct over supervisory personnel, such as superintendents and foremen, performing construction and/or maintenance activities for transportation infrastructure. Other reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.LOCATION OF WORK:Primarily located at the Department of Transportation and Development. Other locations may be approved by SCS.JOB DISTINCTIONS:Differs from other maintenance supervisory personnel by the presence of regional managerial responsibilities of construction and/or maintenance activities for transportation infrastructure.Examples of Work50% Provide technical assistance and guidance to lower level subordinates performing maintenance to transportation infrastructure or facilities throughout the 8 parishes in District 03. Direct subordinates in prioritizing repair locations and ensure repairs are completed using proper repair methods. Ensure repairs are completed within budgetary constraints, while keeping safe roadway conditions for the motoring public a top priority. Provide guidance on the proper use of materials, proper repair procedures, calculations of quantities and proper record keeping. Inspect completed repairs to ensure repairs are made in accordance with quality standards, standard work procedures and methods.20% Monitor work reporting of subordinates to ensure documentation of equipment, labor, and materials used on work performed by maintenance forces. Review Agile work orders to ensure accuracy and approve work orders. 10% Discuss planned maintenance program with the Bridge Engineer. Discuss equipment needs with the District Shop Supervisor. Monitor inventory of materials in stock. Requisition and schedule deliveries of maintenance materials. Coordinate department-owned equipment transport and rental of outside equipment. 10% Assist in conduction interviews and recommending individuals for new hires and promotions, as well as merit increases and disciplinary actions. Evaluate performances (conducts PES planning and evaluation sessions), approve/disapprove leave and work schedules. Prepare necessary paperwork as required. Resolve personnel problems that may arise in the workforce. 5% Investigate complaints received from elected officials, road users and the general public related to the state maintained highway system.
