JOB SUMMARY: In alignment with the mission and vision of Eastern

Maine Medical Center, the Medical Secretary/Biller/Transcriptionist will

provide medical secretarial support to the non-invasive cardiology

department, a busy and often stressful department with high volume, will

be flexible to cover a variety of shifts with evening, weekend and

holiday shifts as needed, will adhere to hospital policy and

professional standards of practice, must have a high level of

interpersonal and communication skills and be a demonstrated team

player. Must demonstrate reliability and accountability to team members

and patientsTASKS FOR THIS POSITIN WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO: Medical Secretary tasks include: Answering Phones, place pre procedural phone calls to patients

confirming appointments, document management and performing billing

tasks. Data tracking and input. Collaborate professionally and effectively with members of the

interdisciplinary care team, providing safe, quality, efficient patient

care across the lifespan, with particular attention to the patient's

age-related cognitive, emotional, physical, and functional needsBilling Tasks include: Perform batch charge entry of services provided in non-invasive

cardiology as needed Review procedural documentation, submit departmental procedure

charges, ensure accuracy and completeness of charges submitted as needed Review all scheduled procedures, documentation and reports as needed

for accurate billing of procedures Provide clinical support for procedural documentation and billing Perform reimbursement-related tasks as they arise, including

researching and reconciling insurance denials and pre-authorizations to

include checking medical necessity through the software program

provided, and working within the departmental performance and quality

improvement teamsTranscription Tasks include: Taking and transcribing non-invasive cardiology reports as needed. Will take and type meeting minutes and participate in projects for

quality and patient flow improvementEXPERIENCE/EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Medical terminology required.EXPERIIENCE/EDUCATION PREFERRED: Graduate/equivalent of a 2-year program in a medical science field or

equivalent preferred. Experience preferred with various medical records/documentation

programsOTHER SKILLS REQUIRED: Strong communication, organizational, computer, telephone and

multi-tasking skills. Visual acuity and manual dexterity are required

for use of the computer system. Auditory is required for accurate

exchange of information. Type 35 WPM, knowledge of computers (preferably MS Office and

Windows), must be self-directed to handle multiple priorities

successfully; pleasant, friendly manner, neat appearance, ability to

speak, read and write English clearly and concisely using correct

grammar and vocabulary. Excellent customer service skills Basic knowledge of procedures, supplies and treatments. Ability to relate well with people and to work effectively with

technical and medical staff, patients and families Learns and maintains core skills, meets all expectations and performs

all functions required of the medical secretary/biller/transcriptionist

rolePHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Small amount of lifting, standing,

pushing, bending, stooping and reaching. Moderate amount of walking.

Large amount of sitting.WORK ENVIRONMENT: Minimal supervision, independent worker with

prolonged sitting. Fast paced, equipment intensive environment,

possible exposure to hazardous chemicals, blood fluids, infectious

disease, and radiation. Must work with video display terminals for up to

90% of an assigned shift.
