The Island Innis an iconic seasonal hotel (established in 1907) and restaurant located 11 miles offshore of Mid-Coast Maine on beautiful Monhegan Island - an unspoiled nature lover's paradise of woods, cliffs and rocky shores, and a small community of lobstermen and working artists. Most of Monhegan Island is preserved as a conservation area with 12 miles of hiking trails around the highest headland cliffs on the East Coast and endless rocky coves.

The Island Inn has 32 guest rooms, ranging from harborside suites to a few remaining shared-bath options. In addition, the hotel operates an in-house 60 seat fine-dining restaurant and a free-standing café, the Barnacle. Our restaurant serves breakfastand dinner to very loyal hotel guests and the public, providing a unique take on coastal cuisine paired with a magical setting.We passionately utilize the bounty of the coastal terrain, as well as cultivate our own gardens and greenhouse producing a variety of organic/heirloom produce and micro-greens.

Our Front Desk staff is at the heart of our continuous effort to offer superlativepersonal guest services without pretension. We believe in treating each member of our staff with respect and kindness so that they can do the same for our guests, many of whom have been staying with us for decades. As a Front Desk Representative, you will be expected to collaborate with yourteammates in Housekeeping,Kitchen and the Dining Roomto create a guest experience that is both familiar and fresh for long-time guests and surprising for first-time visitors.

JOB DESCRIPTION

We're searching for professional, energetic individual, who can deliver gracious service that is both relaxed and professional in a very team-oriented staff environment. This position is a mix of day and evening shifts, averaging 40 hours a week.

Scope of Responsibilities:

Perform sales, marketing, customer service and administrative duties necessary for the successful functioning of The Island Inn.

Report to: Front Desk Manager

Schedule: 6 days per week, acombination of shifts totaling approximately 40 hours, including day shifts and evening shifts

Specific Responsibilities and Personal Attributes:

Attitude: Be a positive, welcoming and knowledgeable face of the Island Inn in person, over the phone and by email. Address guest concerns and complaints graciously and effectively. Remember, our returning guests constantly cite our welcoming staff as a key part of their positive experience.

Knowledge: Answer questions about the Island Inn, accommodations, arrival/departure logistics and Monhegan Island. Use our computer reservation system to check availability, make room reservations, and extract reports such as Arrival and Departure lists, Registration Cards and Guest Bills.

Responsibilities:

- Greet guests or others, check guests in, check guests out, answer questions, make dinner reservations, give tours of guest rooms, and provide office services. Use the computer, telephone, cash register, reservation system and credit card device.

- Collect and process payments for room deposits, guest bills, restaurant, and gift shop.

- Take mail to post office, collect mail from post office. Sort, process and file mail and office documents.

- Notify housekeepers when guests have checked out, prioritize rooms to be cleaned for waiting guests, check rooms before guests are given keys.

- At checkout, oversee the transportation of guest luggage to the proper boat. Communicate with hotel truck driver regarding all luggage transport and special guest situations.

- Keep lobby, porch and public areas neat.

- Must be able to commit to working the entire 2024season through Monday, October 14, 2024
