Job Description

As a member of the Center of Excellence (Nursing Research, Innovation, Professional Development and Quality) and reporting to the Associate Chief Nursing Officer of the Center of Excellence, the Research Nurse/Program Coordinator is responsible for supporting, coaching and mentoring nurses and patient care service members through the design, implementation, analyzation and dissemination of nursing research, translational evidence-based practice initiatives and quality improvement projects. Knowledge and skills in data management and analyzation are preferred. The Research Nurse/Program Coordinator also functions within the role of support for nursing program development, educational activities including and not limited to onboarding/orientation and as a nurse planner of events.

As the Research/Program Coordinator responsibilities include but are not limited to implementing the mission set forth by Tufts Medical Center and Tufts Children’s Hospital the Nursing department for excellence in care and supports the oversight of studies to ensure that research and evidence based practice initiatives are performed in a manner consistent with Institutional Review Board guidelines. The role also includes participating in the development, implementation, evaluation and revision of professional development activities and procedures to maximize efficiency, effectiveness, safety, patient family centeredness and productivity.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with the COE team, nurse leaders, and clinical teams to establish processes and workflows that ensure protocol compliance, complete and accurate research and evidence-based practice methods.
  • Develops educational programs/tools for clinical staff related to professional development activities in research, evidence based practice initiatives and quality improvement
  • Support data analysis through statistical methods and databases (i.e. Excel, SPSS, SAS)
  • Reviews and assists with new study protocol development and protocol amendments for nursing.
  • Provides research education to clinical teams
  • Collaborates with the research team to coordinate study and enrollment
  • Acts as a resource to the care teams related to professional governance project work for advancing care delivering
  • Supports/Develops new policies or guidelines of practice in nursing
  • Provides coaching and mentoring of IRB procedures for studies including proper submissions of forms and documents.
  • Supports project management within COE and clinical teams, inclusive of lean and lean six sigma methods.
  • Supports the communication and dissemination of research, evidence–based practice initiatives and quality improvement through posters, podium presentations and manuscripts
  • Participates within the mentorship program of nurses
  • Maintains records of research, evidence-based practice initiatives, quality improvements and databases for Magnet requirements as related
  • Supports clinical and professional development activities: program development, onboarding, and orientation of novice and experienced nurses
  • Functions as a nurse planner within the Center of Excellence

Qualifications

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Working knowledge of various computer applications including Microsoft Office Applications, Data Analysis programs
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Detail oriented and meticulous in all aspects of work
  • Strong follow through skills and ability to proactively identify and solve problems

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or REGISTRATIONS:

  • Current licensure as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts OR Degree in Public Health.
  • BLS certification, BLS instructor preference

EDUCATION:

  • BSN or Degree in Public Health Required
  • MSN or higher degree obtained or in progress preferred

EXPERIENCE:

  • Research, evidence-based practice and quality improvement experience
  • Data analysis experience
  • Project management
  • Program/Educational Development
