Job Description and Duties:

We are a local small Apple/Mac Consulting shop in need of an experienced Apple consultant to troubleshoot residential and small-business Apple-centric issues both on-location and remotely. The consultant must not only be able to resolve typical network, email, syncing, and slow Mac issues, but also have exemplary customer service skills to relate the most complicated issues and solutions in laymen's terms using everyday analogies and language.

The consultant will work from home and travel around the greater Boston area in his/her own vehicle to client's homes, in addition to performing remote access of client's computers and troubleshooting via phone and email.

We don't want a typical computer technician or consultant. We're looking for a multifaceted individual who has interwoven Macs and Apple gear into their lives for years and who enjoys teaching people how to use their Apple products better to alleviate frustrations in their lives and to increase efficiency in their day. You will need to analyze people's lives and needs and suggest customized solutions. "Canned" solutions do not work for our clients. This is a type of life consulting.

We absolutely do not work on Windows PCs. If you are a Windows user or "use both", then this isn't the job for you.

Specific Duties:

- Determine the source of concern by interviewing client on the telephone.

- Teach client by answering questions, interpreting operating instructions, and providing real-world analogies and examples.

- Ask questions to determine the source of error by reviewing procedures and actions taken by client. Instruct the client to perform diagnostic procedures.

- Resolve problems by explaining discrete, simple, precise corrective instructions.

- Maintain client confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential.

Examples of Typical Tasks:

- Set up and troubleshoot wireless networks and network connectivity issues between Airport and third-party routers and client's Macs, iPhones, and iPads.

- Diagnose and fix failed startups, gray screens, and spinning Apple startup screens.

- Install and/or replace hard drives and RAM in Macbook Pros and iMacs.

- Tutor clients on how to organize photos in albums in iPhoto or Aperture.

- Tutor clients on how to organize music in iTunes.

- Create and set up new email accounts, including migrating email from one host to another. Troubleshoot Mail and Outlook email accounts that won't send or receive email.

- Sync and consolidate Mail, Calendar, Contacts, Notes, Reminders, and files across iPhones, iPads, and Macs using iCloud, Google, or Microsoft Exchange.

- Upgrade and install MacOS, Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.

- Tutor clients on how to better use their iPad and iPhone; recommend apps that will accomplish their goals.

- Set up and troubleshoot Time Machine backup systems attached to external hard drives, Time Capsules, and NAS.

- Diagnose and fix software and hardware crashes, such as spontaneously quitting applications, extended spinning beach balls, and black Restart your computer screens.

- Set up, troubleshoot, and reset Apple IDs. Synchronize Apple IDs across all Apple devices.

- Migrate data and accounts from one Mac to another.

- Consult with clients on what software will solve their organizational needs in terms of file storage, photo/video/music management, syncing, and time/calendar management.
