Job Description

About This Role Biogen’s Gene Therapy Accelerator Unit is driving innovation on both technology and drug discovery process fronts to accelerate gene therapies that may one day help transform the way we treat neurological diseases. We are looking for an innovative, enthusiastic, and dedicated scientist to join our team and contribute to the generation of pioneering gene therapies.

You will work independently and with cross-functional teams to develop and perform molecular and cell-based assays to characterize AAV vectors in vitro as well as support in vivo characterization. Your work supports the development of novel therapeutic approaches for neurodegenerative, neuroinflammatory, and ophthalmic disorders.

What You’ll Do

  • AAV vector characterization by adapting existing protocols and developing new protocols - including genome titer by ddPCR, genome integrity analysis, cell-based functional assays, empty/full particle ratio assays, endotoxin assay, residual DNA, and protein assays
  • Maintain constant awareness of novel biochemical and biophysical technologies for in vitro characterization
  • Investigate and implement new analytical and bioanalytical technologies
  • Establish SOPs and adapt new protocols from literature
  • Maintain electronic laboratory notebooks, present data to the team, and write study reports

Qualifications

Required Skills

  • MS or BS in biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, or related field
  • 3+ years (BS) or 1+ year (MS) of experience in an academic or biotech/pharmaceutical industry setting
  • Hands-on experience with molecular biology techniques (qPCR, ddPCR, DNA gel electrophoresis, SDS-PAGE, WB, ELISA, etc.)
  • Strong skillset in mammalian cell culture
  • Ability to independently design, execute, and analyze in vitro molecular biology experiments
  • Strong critical thinking, communication, organization, and presentation skills

Preferred Skills

  • Experience working in a biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry setting
  • Hands-on experience with AAV or other gene therapy vectors
  • Previous experience in an analytical development or method development group
  • Hands-on experience with molecular cloning
  • Research experience in neuroscience/neurological disorders
