Job Description

RESEARCH SUPPORT ASSOCIATE 2, BIOINFORMATICS, Civil and Environmental Engineering-Cordero Lab (https://corderolab.org/) , to join a multidisciplinary group studying microbial communities. The research team focuses on the rules that govern the assembly of microbial communities in the environment and on strategies to engineer microbiomes to improve planetary health. Will work together with a team of Ph.D. students and postdocs to expand and validate a newly developed technique which allows the building of spatially structured multispecies consortia in order to engineer microbiomes with novel metabolic functions. Job responsibilities will include growing aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms, designing and constructing novel multispecies aggregates, performing fluorescent microscopy and image analysis, measuring metabolic outputs using high-performance liquid chromatography, preparing material for research papers and presentations, submitting data to repositories, and performing related duties as required. Opportunities to co-author research papers are common. Job RequirementsREQUIRED: high school diploma or its equivalent; exposure to a research lab; basic knowledge of general laboratory practices and procedures; excellent organizational, analytical, and oral and written communication skills; self-motivation; and ability to multitask and work effectively with others. PREFERRED: B.S./B.A. in biology or related science field and experience with molecular biology, chemistry, and or microbiology.
