Bioinformatician-Computational Biologist IntermediateApply NowSummaryThe Department of Microbiology and Immunology seeks a full-time position for bioinformatician who will support and perform analysis of viral, bacterial, and fungal genomic data. Effort will be split between the Lauring laboratory and the Michigan Infectious Diseases Genomics Center Technical and Data Core. Specific duties will include: (i) organizing and performing quality control on genomic data, (ii) working to ensure timely deposition of both sequence and meta-data, (iii) deploying pipelines for genome assembly, annotation, variant calling, and phylogenetic analysis, (iv) helping ensure consistent data organization across projects, (v) assisting projects in running specific pipelines and (vi) assisting projects in sharing of datasets and code in preparation for manuscript submission.Mission StatementMichigan Medicine improves the health of patients, populations and communities through excellence in education, patient care, community service, research and technology development, and through leadership activities in Michigan, nationally and internationally. Our mission is guided by our Strategic Principles and has three critical components; patient care, education and research that together enhance our contribution to society.ResponsibilitiesGeneral responsibilities include collaborative design, validation, and use of novel analysis approaches to interpret bioinformatics/clinical and/or 'omics data and review/revise/recommend approaches to experimental design and analysis. Actively review literature and evaluate tools to identify and validate emerging methods and approaches. Establish/maintain/extend best practices for reproducible bioinformatics analysis and general-use data pipelines. May teach bioinformatics skills as appropriate.Required QualificationsThe successful applicant must have a Master's or PhD in bioinformatics or adjacent field and at least 4-5 years of experience in implementing sequence analysis pipelines. Experience in annotating code and pipelines on github, management of sequencing databases, and drafting manuscripts preferred.
