Job Title: Phlebotomist (float)Job DescriptionResponsibilities:Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures. Properly explains in a clear but courteous manner the process of the venipuncture (blood drawing) and or other specimen collection (ex. urine or fecal) as required. Demonstrates techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Fully understands all of the physicians' orders. Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Labels, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens as required by test order. Checks all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy. Packages specimens for transport. Stores specimen samples according to required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately labels, and follows different procedures as outlined by specific protocols deemed necessary for transport to maintain the integrity of the specimen.This is a float role throughout Metro Detroit. the BASE site is set for Ann Arbor, MI. If needed this person could be asked to travel to other medical site ranging 40 hours from AA.

Responsible for drawing patient samples (blood), properly processing the samples, and then properly packaging the samples most likely 25 times/day and for processing the samples onsite, very independent work.

Communicates with clinic staff daily to organize and schedule blood draws and also schedule the pickups/shipping of the samples they draw.

Order of draw, customer service to internal employees, and treatment of patients is of the utmost importance. Every day will look a little different as they handle a number of different specialties at this location.
