ResponsibilitiesBASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY

To perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations for subsequent evaluation and treatment by attending physician; and to select and set up ultrasound equipment.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESEssential:

Select equipment for use in ultrasound and set up according to specifications of examinations.

Review patient's clinical history.

Explain processes to patients and assist in positioning patients for required scan.

Adjust equipment controls according to specific orders and areas of the body to be examined.

Operate ultrasound diagnostic equipment, observing sound wave display screen to note ultrasonic pattern produced.

Produce visual images of organs shown on display module to obtain permanent records of internal examination.

Attach identification tag to photographs or recorder printout.

Set up and adjust equipment using operator tuning adjustment.

Perform operator maintenance of ultrasound equipment.

Train, instruct and demonstrate the operation of the ultrasound equipment to staff, medical students, physicians, and other professional medical personnel.

Maintain necessary records concerning patients.

Discuss scan results with radiologists.

Process patient care orders using the electronic ordering system may be required in certain areas.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

General supervision is received from a physician or designated supervisor.

SUPERVISION EXCERCISED

Functional supervision may be exercised over assigned assistants.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires moderate standing/walking, as well as lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring of patients.

Required Qualifications

Some knowledge of human anatomy is desirable.

Registration with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers is necessary within 6 months of hire date.

Certification of Abdomen and OB-GYN is required within 12 months of hire date.

Desired Qualifications

Graduate of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) is required.

Active certification by American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in both ABD and OB-GYN.

1-year Inpatient hospital environment.
