Railcar Carman

Our Railcar Carman is responsible for all aspects of railcar repair and maintenance. The person must be able to read and understand blueprints, make car repairs in compliance with FRA & AAR rules and keep good repair records. Ensure all company guidelines are met and all safety rules are followed when performing duties.4 day work week, Monday through Friday! Paid every Friday!Position DescriptionThe Railcar Carman is responsible for all aspects of railcar repair and maintenance, including removal, fabrication, fitment, and welding of railcar parts, components, and structures. The Railcar Carman ensures all company guidelines are met and all safety rules are followed when performing duties. Working safely and maintaining a safe work area are top priorities for this position.Major Areas of ResponsibilityInterpret job work orders to perform required repairsCoordinate and complete assigned repairs in an efficient manner and within the assigned timeframeNotify management of any materials and/or equipment required to ensure completion of assigned tasksDocument repair records accurately and thoroughlyInteract with crew members in a team environment, as well as with the supervisorComply with all safety and environmental health policiesEnsure AAR, TM Track Machines, and customer quality assurance standards are metPractice proper housekeeping by ensuring a clean work areaMinimum QualificationsAbility to read and write English at a high school levelDependable and consistent attendance/punctualityMinimum of 1 year railcar repair experienceKnowledge of machines and tools required to weld, cut, and gougePerform/prioritize multiple tasks with attention to detailsAbility to follow oral and written instructions including basic blue prints and schematicsBasic mechanical skills and the ability to read a tape measureWork RequirementsAbility to work in conditions that include loud noise, fumes, dirt, and heavy equipment in motionWork in hot and cold environment, in and out of the weather; work safely around heavy equipment and on top of and under railcars, as well as around railroad tracksAbility to transverse and work on uneven surfacesAbility to distinguish auditory signals with trainingAbility to change easily from one task to another (varying in nature) and deal with competing demandsAbility to work in tight spaces, under railcars, track equipment, locomotives, vehicles, etc.Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including, but not limited to: steel toe boots, eye protection, ear plus, gloves, hot work PPE, and fall protectionAbility to meet all functional requirements including, but not limited to: lifting (up to 60lbs), sitting, kneeling, standing, walking, bending, twisting, squatting, finger dexterity, and reaching above/below shouldersWe look forward to receiving your application!Omaha Track, Inc. is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of any legally protected status or characteristic.
