Job Description Summary:The Group Exercise Instructor teaches a variety of group exercise classes which include, but are not limited to; land-based conditioning (e.g., Cardio Pump, Step, Boot Camp, Zumba, and others), water-based (aquatic) exercise) and specialty classes such as Cycling, PiYo, and Adult Conditioning. This position closely monitors class participants to ensure safety and efficiency of all instruction.Qualifications:

Must meet one (1) of the below qualifications:

Certification required in area of instruction. These include, but may not be limited to; PiYo, Aquatic Exercise, Cycling, Zumba, or other specialty certification directly related to area of instruction.

Nationally recognized Group Exercise Certification.

Bachelor’s degree in exercise science or related field preferred.

Current HS AED CPR certification or must successfully obtain within ninety (90) days of hire.

Minimum of two (2) years experience teaching group exercise classes preferred.

Ability to use good judgment, apply a high degree of integrity and maintain confidentiality at all times.

Possess ability to communicate orally to individuals and small groups.

Job Duties:

Provides state of the art class instruction to SMFC members and guests.

Supervises and closely monitors the safety of all class participants during all phases of the class session.

Teaches appropriate exercise techniques, provides exercise modification(s) and/or restriction specific to individual needs.

Adheres to SMFC policies and procedures. Follows specific guidelines when a class is canceled or unable to teach a scheduled class.

Works closely with Group Exercise Supervisor to maximize class quality, safety and participant satisfaction. Advises of possible improvements, changes in schedules, canceled classes, etc.

Attends mandatory staff and department meetings.

Responds to emergency situations according to SMFC policies/procedures.

Works independently and in an organized and structured manner.
