Full time Guidance counselor position for the 2024-2025 School Year for the Sidney Public Schools.

Must have:

Valid Montana Teaching Certificate with proper endorsement or eligibility for certification. Generally, three (3) years of teaching experience or counseling experience in addition to completion of a college-approved guidance and counseling major or minor.

As a condition of employment, applicant will submit to a fingerprint background investigation to determine if he or she has been convicted of certain criminal or drug offenses.

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, parents, staff.

Ability to handle stressful situations.

Ability to maintain confidentiality of employment and student matters.

Ability to effectively manage time and responsibilities.

Ability to solve problems in a practical and workable manner.

Ability to use age-appropriate language and accompanying techniques in one-on-one settings as well as group settingsEssential functions include:

Conducts counseling of student groups and individual students regarding educational and career plans including but not limited to class schedules, post-secondary information and planning, post-secondary financing, involvement in co-curricular activities, and other personal goal development.

Provides counseling and guidance to students and parents in the use of test results for education/career planning.

Counsels individual students or groups of students who are having problems in school and discusses students? problems and progress with parents (only as appropriate and in observance of confidentiality requirements).

Educates students and parents regarding the necessary course work required for graduation and assists those students who are showing signs of having educational difficulties.

Reviews and evaluates academic progress of students and makes recommendations for modifications as appropriate.

Consults with the teaching staff/building principal to facilitate counseling activities into the regular educational program.

Consults with teachers, other educational staff, and parents regarding the developmental needs of students.

Provides orientation to new students regarding the District's educational opportunities and/or career paths.

Discusses alternatives with students and advises in the selection of what seems to be the most desirable course of action.

Serves as a reference source for current information on colleges, technical education, apprenticeships, armed services, and other educational programs and career opportunities.

Conducts standardized tests and other assessments with district test coordinator in accordance with District schedule, policies and law.

Keeps records of academic performance, attendance, and social acclimation. Reports on all aspects of student development for school records and parents; conducts parent-teacher conferences on both a regularly scheduled and an as-needed basis.

Coordinate student scheduling and building level master schedules with building level administrator.

Consults with other professionals, where there appears to be evidence of learning disabilities or problems of social adjustment. Coordinates decisions with parents concerning any specialized intervention which appears warranted.

Reports cases of suspected child abuse according to state law.

Complies with Board policies, rules, regulations, and directives.

Participates in faculty meetings, educational conferences, professional training seminars, and workshops.

Selects, stores, issues, and inventories equipment, materials, and supplies used in education program. Maintains a well organized classroom space conducive to instruction and free of hazards.

Assumes other duties as may be assigned by the principal.
