The PositionConservation Educators plan, organize, implement and evaluate educational programs designed to teach hunter and boating safety, environmental concepts and other wildlife related areas to the public, and participate in public relations activities.Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.The position serves as the Urban Wildlife Coordinator and will be the first point of contact for the public in regards to questions, concerns, or reports about urban wildlife conflicts. In addition, the incumbents plan, organizes, implements, and conducts educational programs about the behaviors of wildlife, how to prevent human-wildlife conflicts, and what to do when conflicts arise. Inquiries or complaints about urban wildlife generally come from those who are unfamiliar with wildlife and are often concerned for their own or someone else's safety, or for the animal itself. Creates educational programs to address specific community needs regarding human-wildlife conflict. Incumbent develops lesson plans and visual aid materials based on those needs. Researches the specific subject matter of interest, evaluating programs presented elsewhere in the state or county where similar problems exist, identifying the information that best applies to the local situation and developing the appropriate format of sharing that information with the use of volunteers. A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Occasional nights and/or weekends may be required.
