Finance Administrator at South Church, Portsmouth

We’re looking for a detail-oriented, organized, and collaborative Finance Administrator to join our team and help us manage the essential financial and human resource functions that support our mission.
As the Finance Administrator, you’ll play a critical role in overseeing the day-to-day financial operations of the church, including managing pledges and donations, payroll, budgeting, and compliance. You’ll work closely with the Minister, Treasurer, and leadership teams, providing financial expertise that supports our programs and inspires our shared vision.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Operations: Handle accounts payable/receivable, reconcile bank accounts, prepare financial reports, and general day-to-day accounting activities.
Pledge and Donation Management: Track contributions, reconcile payments, and assist members with pledge inquiries.
Budgeting and Reporting: Collaborate on budget preparation, monitor variances, and provide monthly financial updates to church leadership.
Human Resources: Manage personnel files, employee benefits, and onboarding. Process payroll and ensure compliance with legal requirements.
Compliance: Submit required state and federal filings, and prepare for financial audits.
What You Bring:
Experience (2+ years) in accounting or finance. Non-profit experience is a plus.
Proficiency with financial software (QuickBooks, payroll software), Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Interpersonal skills to communicate respectfully and effectively with staff, congregants, and vendors.
