This position is for a Senior Oracle Database Engineer with extensive experience of administering and configuring Oracle databases and servers. The candidate should: Have in-depth experience of supporting VLDBs running on Oracle 19 which act as the backend to a high transactional system
- Have worked extensively with External Procedures (extproc)
- Be able to demonstrate they have the skills and aptitude to analyze the architecture, design and implementation of an existing legacy system, and that they can proactively suggest ways to stabilize and enhance said system.
- Be able to communicate effectively with DBA team members, system architects and developers.
- Will need to work on monitoring, troubleshooting and database performance tuning skills in high availability environments.
- Desirably have some experience of Microsoft SQL Server.
- Proactively monitor database performance to report, communicate and take the needed actions required to improve the throughput, performance and stability of the database platform.
- Manages database backup scripts and should be familiar with RMAN on Rubrik.
- Provide database administration to Oracle RAC 19c databases running on, Linux and Windows server.
- Install, configure, support Data guard and maintain Oracle RDBMS and Oracle Grid Infrastructure applications and apply required patches and updates
- Contribute to archiving and masking projects and learn and implement DBA scripts, procedures and standards
- Work with application developers to:
- Encourage / enforce accepted best practice
- Collect troubleshooting information and work towards resolving release issues and performance concerns.
- Familiar with data guard setup and cloud onboarding.
- Should be proficient in SQL PL/SQL and sh/ksh/bash scripting
- Good interpersonal skills and an aptitude to solve problems.
- College degree in computer science or a related discipline, or an equivalent level of technical knowledge required.
- 12+ years of Oracle RDBMS production experience with 8 years of which should be in managing critical high available, very large databases.
- Ability to troubleshoot/debug extproc implementations.
- Experience using Oracle Database Advanced Queuing (AQ).
- 5+ years experience of programming languages such as Perl/shell, Jave/C or PL/SQL.
- Familiarity with oracle Grid Infrastructure, ASM and Data Guard on Solaris, Linux and Windows
- Good knowledge of linux / unix / windows operating systems.
- Experience with Backup and Restore strategies and creating RMAN backup scripts and database duplication using RMAN.
- Should be willing and adaptable to learn, support and contribute to customizations and in house developed solutions without barriers.
- Understanding of system architecture.
- Working experience of Microsoft SQL Server.
- Experience Installing, configuring, upgrading and applying patches to SQL server,
- Ability to troubleshoot and setup and performance issues with SQL server.
- Strong verbal and written communication, and time management skills.
- Experience in data modeling tools like Erwin.
