Job DescriptionOverview:The Director, External Affairs is responsible for protecting and enhancing the Company’s reputation through the development of an external communications strategy, in coordination with the Global Media Relations team, aimed at engaging key external audiences and stakeholders, including investors, policymakers, and industry leaders. This individual will build, foster and maintain positive relationships with these stakeholders, and ensure the successful communication of key initiatives, moments and milestones.Reporting to the Executive Director, Corporate Communications and Reputation, this leader will work closely across business functions to lead key external engagements to enhance our Company’s reputation globally. During crises and major external moments, this individual will serve as a point of contact for developing communications strategies and communicating the company’s position to targeted stakeholders as appropriate.This leader will identify and secure external communications opportunities for the company, including awards, recognitions, events and speaking opportunities, and will support the execution of the annual shareholders meeting and major external moments. This individual will proactively work with internal and external partners on showcasing our Company’s business developments, research, innovation, collaborations and other milestones.This role is based in Rahway, New Jersey.Scope of work and core responsibilities includes:Develop an external communications and engagement plan aimed at key external stakeholders in coordination with the Executive Director, Corporate Communications and Reputation and the Global Media Relations team

Build and maintain relationships with external audiences and stakeholders, including investors, policymakers, and industry leaders.

Serve as the primary point of contact for organizations, conferences and speaking engagement opportunities for Company executives

Coordinate with the broader Global Communications team to ensure messaging is tailored to specific external stakeholder audiences

Create and maintain contact lists for target external stakeholders and groups

Monitor the activities of target external stakeholders and audiences to help inform the overall corporate reputation plan and issues during crises

Education Minimum Requirement:Bachelor’s Degree with 8 or more years of communications experience OR a minimum of a high school diploma with at least 12 years of equivalent experience which could include: communications, media, and/or military.Position Qualifications:8+ years of experience in public relations, corporate communications, and external affairs

Superb writing, editing and communications skills

Exceptional attention to detail and flawless instinct

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software

Positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills and the proven ability to network within a highly-matrixed organization and maintain collaborative relationships

Strong project management skills with proven success managing major projects
