For details, please go to Seniority Unit Terms of Appointment Staff - 12 month Position Pension Eligibility PERS Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience Requires a high school/vocational school education or equivalent and some relevant experience working with children.Positions that support certified special education teachers/teachers of the handicapped, who work predominantly with developmentally disabled or other special needs populations, also require the ability to work with children and/or young adults with autism or other special needs.Must be able to communicate effectively, have effective client service skills, and have the ability to instruct and provide support to the specific student population.Requires the ability to record and maintain data in computerized and non-computerized formats.May require the ability to use specialized instructional and/or record-keeping instruments.Required to obtain certification in CPR/First Aid within six months of employment. Certifications/Licenses Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands; a valid driver's license would be required for this position. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Some previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities/autism.The ability to work well with adults with autism who are educationally, physically, and behaviorally challenged.Competent communication skills. Physical Demands and Work Environment Employee must be physically active and be on feet most of the day. Duties may involve running/standing with individuals with autism (adults) and driving vans.Following training must be physically capable of safely providing crisis management techniques including restraining, lifting, and blocking individuals with challenging behavior.Crowded and moderately noisy conditions with children, adolescents, adults, and staff moving about.
