MUST HAVE OSHA 62
On a this construction project, the Competent Person identifies hazards, takes immediate corrective action, conducts safety meetings, ensures OSHA and Code compliance, and guides workers, functioning under the Construction Superintendent but with specific authority to halt dangerous work to protect personnel and property from immediate threats.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Hazard Identification & Abatement: Capable of spotting existing/predictable hazards (unsanitary, dangerous conditions) and has authority to stop work and fix them immediately.
Worker Guidance: Provides safety training, directs workers, and corrects unsafe practices on-site.
Inspections: Performs daily inspections, particularly for scaffolds, excavations, and other high-risk areas, documenting findings.
Compliance: Ensures adherence to OSHA standards and regulations.
Documentation: Maintains records, including accident reports and safety meeting attendance.
Communication: Must effectively communicate safety instructions to all workers.
Pre-Shift Meetings: Conducts daily pre-shift safety briefings for workers.
Relationship with Construction Superintendent:
The Competent Person works under the Construction Superintendent (CS) but doesn't replace the CS's overall responsibility.
They must follow CS orders but can independently address immediate dangers.
Must oversee all workers entering the site to make sure their OSHA is up to date and that they attended toolbox talks
