What You Will DoLos Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is looking for skilled Radiological Control Technicians (RCTs) to join the Radiation Protection (RP) Division. RCTs support a wide variety of different work activities across a broad range of facilities and can learn new skills and expand their expertise in the identification and understanding of radiological hazards and controls. LANL RCTs implement radiation protection requirements and work independently on challenging projects requiring collaboration with multiple work groups. Assignments can involve activities in varying work environments and weather conditions. This is a great opportunity to further your career in the Radiation Protection field while contributing directly to national security.Radiological Control Technician 4 ($76,900 - $122,200)As an RCT 4, you will provide direct support to field implementation of the Radiation Protection Program through the execution of radiological job coverage, workplace surveys, and documentation of radiological data. In addition, you will assist and mentor less experienced RCTs in the execution of radiation monitoring, contamination control, emergency response, and the implementation of radiation work permits and other work documents.Radiological Control Technician 5 ($92,300 - $151,000)In addition to what was outlined at the RCT 4 level, you may serve as the primary Radiation Protection point of contact for assisting in job planning, coordinating resources, and resolving issues for radiological work activities. You will also provide technical leadership of less experiences RCTs, ensuring compliance with radiological procedures.What You NeedMinimum Job Requirements: Experience in providing radiological support for moderate and high-hazard radiological work. Experience with advanced-level and technical knowledge in radiation protection principles and practices, and ability to implement those principles in at least one area of health physics (e.g. accelerators, reactors, actinides). Experience with advanced level in radiation monitoring, personnel exposure control, and other radiation protection activities. Experience in advanced skills to conceptualize and communicate major elements of radiological safety/protection to all levels of personnel. Ability to wear personal protective equipment such as respiratory protection, safety glasses, anti-contamination clothing. Advanced experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigation alternative solutions, and recommending solution on problems affecting radiological safety/protection. Experience in advanced ability to provide technical leadership to other technicians. Extensive experience in coordination of activities at very high levels of complexity. Experience in advanced technical ability, which is expected to be advanced in at least several health physics areas (e.g. air monitoring, accelerators instrumentation, software development, and applied health physics). Experience in advanced ability to implement improvement actions and ensure ongoing performance. Advanced ability and experience in using computer-based office applications such as e-mail and word processing applications.Education and Years of Relevant ExperienceRadiological Control Technician 4:This position requires a high school diploma and a minimum of 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.Radiological Control Technician 5:This position requires a high school diploma and a minimum of 6 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
