About Us : New York Edge is a non-profit organization and one of the largest providers of school-based afterschool programs in New York City and the metropolitan region serving over 25,000 elementary, middle, and high school students each year. The mission of New York Edge is to help bridge the opportunity gap among students in underinvested communities by providing programs designed to improve academic performance, health and wellness, self-confidence, and leadership skills for success in life. Summary: New York Edge is seeking passionate and enthusiastic people to fill the seasonal role of Summer Day Camp Literacy Instructor. In this role, you will be critical to the successful operation of the Summer Day Camp program. Specialists are responsible for leading Summer activities for children and teens at New York Edge program sites. Schedule: Part-Time Seasonal/Temporary (July 2th – August 16th) Weekly Scheduled Hours of 16-29 (depends on operational needs of camp location) No Summer Camp on July 4
Elementary school : operates Monday-Thursday from 12-6 pm and Friday 8 am-6pm
During the last week of August 12th-16 th camp will operate from 8 am-6pm
Middle school : operates Monday-Thursday only from 12-4 pm (Camp is closed on Friday’s)

Pay :
$20-25/hour (based on experience and credentials)
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Build strong relationships with and among students
Teach or co-lead daily activities
Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students
Participate in ongoing professional development activities
Prepare materials for daily activities
Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests
Support the coordination of program events
Input data and prepare reports
Administer pre and post-assessments and evaluations for student activities
Qualities we’re looking for:
Knowledge of state and National Literacy efforts
Creativity
Must have excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills
Experience working with children and/or teens
Ability to multitask and manage workflow in a fast-paced environment
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with program staff, school personnel, parents
Sensitive to social-emotional needs and characteristics of students
Self-starter who takes initiative
Flexibility, reliability, and sound judgment
Other duties as assigned
Must be available to complete and attend trainings prior to the start of the camp season
Must be available to work throughout the entirety of the camp season July 2 nd – August 16 th
REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma or equivalent required
Must be 18 years old
Broad knowledge of the principles and practices of current educational trends in Literacy curriculum and experience successfully teaching and instructing youth.
College credits and/or degrees are highly preferred
Physical requirements include the ability to climb stairs, lift children, and monitor events.
Experience working with children strongly preferred
Specialists will be required to report to the school building and interact with staff, students, parents, and school administration.
At time of offer and acceptance, the job requires safety and security clearances through the Department of Education and Department of Health.
