Hiring a VP for a Sr. Distributed Computing Database Engineer

Full Time for a

Hybrid role based in NYC. The candidate selected will provide hands-on support for database administration involving design, implementation, monitoring, maintenance, and upgrades for SQL, Mongo and Aurora. The client, a global investment bank has a fast-paced team environment supporting Trading Floor, Middle, and Back-Office users.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a hybrid work model and therefore all candidates must be in commuting distance to the client's NYC office.

THE DAY TO DAY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Experience supporting databases such as MS SQL, Mongo and Aurora AWS.
  • Support Microsoft SQL Server platforms Standard and Enterprise - SQL 2012 - 2019,
  • Experience with AWS database cloud support.
  • Work with developers to deploy Database scripts for daily production releases.
  • Provide administration, monitoring, troubleshooting, and problem resolution for the database environments.
  • Develop, support, document, test, and implement Engineering solutions.
  • Monitor system performance, configuration, upgrade, maintenance, repair, backups and restores.
  • Work closely with other infrastructure teams - cybersecurity and development t
  • Provide support for Level2/3 database problem resolution.
  • Update/maintain all documentation, improving documentation as required.
  • Research/recommend innovative solutions, and where possible, automate approaches for system administration tasks.
  • Responsible for maintaining Software End of Life
  • Maintain vendor contacts and annual maintenance contract renewals.
  • Prioritize daily activities on critical and high priority items.
  • Maintain effective communication with the Systems Infrastructure team and management.
  • Late night/weekend work may be necessary at times for installations, patching, upgrades, and maintenance.

THE SKILLS YOU NEED TO GET THE JOB:
  • 5+ years of Database systems, support, installation, upgrade and maintenance.
  • MS SQL Server database platform versions 2012 - 2019.
  • SQL Queries, Stored Procedures, Backup and Recovery, SQL High Availability and Replication,
  • SQL Reporting Services, MS Windows Server, Mongo DB, and Auora AWS support.
  • Install, configure and maintain database servers and processes.
  • Experience with Disaster Recovery, backups/restores.
  • Implementation and support of High Availability SQL Server solutions, including SQL Always-On clustering, DB mirroring, Log.
  • Experience with shipping and Transactional Replications.
  • MS SQL Reporting Services and Data warehouse applications.
  • Production migration and deployment activities.
  • Knowledge of database security, access control, monitoring and auditing
  • High sense of urgency as a Trading floor environment needs to be supported, ability to quickly troubleshoot and resolve.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Ability to multi-task and work on several projects at the same time.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
  • SolarWinds
  • Preferred experience with Autosys application
  • Preferred experience with Power BI and reporting
  • Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions
