Position SummaryThe College of Arts & Science is seeking a talented Assistant Director, First Year Experience to join their team. The Assistant Director will develop and execute programs to support and engage first-year students from the moment they are accepted into NYU through their first year on campus, and to prepare them to transition into the second year and beyond. The Assistant Director will manage the virtual advising process, working closely with Academic Affairs and CAS IT to ensure successful registration of incoming students. This position is also responsible for overseeing the College Leader program, which includes managing the recruiting, hiring, training, and supervision of 45-50 student leaders who serve as orientation leaders and mentors/instructors to incoming students throughout the year. The Assistant Director will conduct trainings and provide support to professional advising staff of 25-30 to ensure first-year class of roughly 1500 students is supported, as well as cultivate and maintain relationships with partners across campus, including Admissions, Wasserman Center for Career Development, NYU Leadership Initiative, the Office of Global Inclusion, Diversity, and Strategic Innovation, , Proud to Be First, and Academic Achievement Program. The Assistant Director will also serve as an academic advisor within the CAS Advising Center, assisting students in designing and executing their graduation plans.QualificationsRequired Education:Master's Degree in related field.Required Experience:3+ years of professional level experience counseling, academic advising, event planning, student affairs, orientation/first-year experience, leadership development, diversity initiatives, and/or staff training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Superior communication skills and ability to communicate and work with individuals at all levels. Ability to maintain and construct cooperative and mutually beneficial working relationships with others to further organizational goals. Ability to advise a diverse student population of students with a broad knowledge base.Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Working knowledge of theoretical frameworks that guide work with first-year college students and student leaders including retention theory, student development theory, identity development theory, and social and cultural capital and an ability to align scholarship with practice Experience working with and developing programs for first-year students and student leaders.Additional InformationIn compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $70,000.00 to USD $80,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
