College Board - TechnologyDivision - Digital Assessment PlatformThis is a fully remote role (working in EST)This is a full-time, permanent, salaried positionAbout the TeamThe Digital Assessment team is committed to making higher education accessible to every student through innovative technology, building cutting edge applications to deliver College Board's suite of assessments. We are a team of 20, including 15 engineers building web and native platforms, self-organized into three main areas, core web application, native technology, and infrastructure engineering. We are constantly seeking out, experimenting, and harnessing new technologies to build easy-to-use user interfaces, with a singular mission to deliver secure and comprehensive assessments to students across the planet. We regularly collaborate, keeping it light, while pitching and sharing our ideas to help define the future of our applications. We work closely with product owners, architects, user experience, testing centers, students, and external partners to serve our mission. About the Opportunity As a Lead Engineer on the Digital Assessment team, you will be instrumental in enhancing and maintaining our Bluebook Assessment platform, ensuring its readiness for key digital exam administrations. This role involves delivering critical features, maintaining high standards of security and compliance, and achieving exceptional success rates for exam submissions. Additionally, the Lead Engineer will support the expansion of digital AP subjects and manage operational costs effectively. Their efforts will directly contribute to the smooth and secure delivery of exams, impacting hundreds of thousands of students globally.In this role, you will:Design & Implementation (75%)Design and implement high-quality software using the latest technologiesMaintain the highest engineering standards in collaboration with product owners, architects, and stakeholders, in support of our systems and servicesUnderstand new product capabilities and decompose the implementation into specific functional changes for verificationBuild solutions using the best practices of Agile, CI/CD, and DevOpsContinuously develop the skills required to work as part of the Agile team in a poly-skilled development environmentTeam Operations & Success (25%)Lead and Participate in Agile SCRUM ceremonies (Sprint Planning, Grooming, Daily SCRUM, Demo) and contribute to team deliverablesLead peer reviews of software engineering artifactsGive timely feedback to junior engineers to maintain a high quality of engagement.Assist in the identification and resolution of production issuesEnsure the team is adhering to development standards and security policies and proceduresFacilitate team meetings to develop, groom and deliver user stories in collaboration with internal stakeholders, UX and the product owner.About you, you have:Ideally 7-10 years' experience building, testing, and managing web-based applications.At least 5 years of recent, strong, hands-on experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript5+ years' experience implementing QA automated frameworks such as Playwright, Webdriver.ioExperience using webpack for deploying web applications.Experiencing building highly available, accessible applications.Demonstrated proficiency building React single-page or progressive web applicationsExperience with version control using Git, test automation, and experience provisioning and managing Cloud infrastructure as code using AWS CLI, AWS CloudFormation, and/or AWS Cloud Development Kit (CDK)Experience managing and designing high availability applications on AWS cloud platform preferredProven track record of training and coaching less experienced teammates in new technologiesStrong analytical thinking, structured problem-solving and practical decision-making skillsSelf-starter with the ability to set priorities, work independently and attain goalsAbility and enthusiasm to learn new technologiesEffective communicator, a believer in good comments and documentationExperience working in an Agile/Scrum and iterative development environmentExperience implementing native mobile and desktop applications a plusAbout Our Benefits and CompensationCollege Board offers a competitive benefits and compensation program that attracts top talent looking to make a difference in education. Your salary will be carefully determined based on your location, relevant experience, the external labor market, and the pay of College Board employees in similar roles.
