ResponsibilitiesGeneral Purpose:The Thompson lab in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Rochester is searching for a part-time Research Specialist to work on behavioral and electroencephalography (EEG) studies of perceptual and related symptoms (e.g., auditory hallucinations) of psychotic disorders. Duties of the position include:

recruiting, screening, and scheduling appointments with research participants;

conducting diagnostic and symptom interviews;

administering perceptual and cognitive measures;

facilitating and assisting with audiological and EEG sessions;

preparing materials for IRB review;

maintaining and updating study databases;

data analysis;

performing literature searches;

preparing written scientific results for publication and conference presentations;

coordinating and supervising tasks across different members of the research team; and

assisting with administrative/clerical duties, as needed.

Responsibilities:Participant recruitment

Works with the PI to develop, implement and evaluate recruitment strategies;

Carries out face-to-face recruitment strategies (e.g., presentations, recruitment events, informational sessions) at the UR and other local clinics and settings serving individuals with serious psychiatric conditions.

Participant screening, assessment, and retention

Conducts diagnostic, symptom, perceptual, and cognitive assessments with study participants;

Takes appropriate steps to ensure the safety of participants;

Provides outreach to study participants to maximize their retention in the project.

Data management

Ensures the integrity and security of all paper and electronic data;

Assists with, and oversees, the cleaning and entering of data into databases.

Lab Coordination/Supervision

Develops and updates study protocols and lab manuals;

Initiates IRB project approval process for new protocols and project amendments;

Assists with training, supervising, and mentoring students and/or interns, and junior members of the team.

Reporting and dissemination

Assists the PI in the development, writing, and editing of presentations and publications of study findings;

Prepares data reports to sponsoring agencies/institutions, as required.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree required

or Associate's degree and completion of 6 months in the Human Subject Research Coordinator Trainee program required

Associate's degree and completion of 6 months in the Human Subject Research Coordinator Trainee program required

Or equivalent combination of education and experience required

Word processing and data analysis software preferred
