GENERAL PURPOSE:In collaboration with the Permanent Collection Registrar, provides registrarial and project management support for the Curatorial department.RESPONSIBILITIES:PLANNING

Serves on exhibition planning teams, helping shape and execute installation schedules relating to art movements and staffing.

Participates in weekly Registrars¿ meeting, and quarterly Art and Archives Emergency Response meetings to ensure the care, preservation and risk management of the Museum¿s collections.

Gives orientations to MAG Security Ambassadors on temporary exhibition security provisions and advises MAG Director of Facilities & Security and UR Dept., of Public Safety on temporary exhibition security provisions.

ADMINISTRATION

Utilize museum¿s collections database to track all exhibitions, including creating records.

Tracks budget for shipping and crating and other exhibition related costs.

Coordinates shipping, customs, and courier arrangements. Initiates crate and packing material orders and researches best packing and crating options.

Coordinates conservation arrangements as required and approved.

Provides information to curators and administrators for grant applications.

Serves as the point person for coordinating traveling exhibitions.

Collaborates as needed with Academic Programs staff on exhibition related hands-on activities, in-service programs and docent orientations.

Collaborates as needed with other MAG departments organizing activities, programs and events taking place within exhibition spaces.

Coordinates and keeps inventory of all exhibition furniture, including off-site storage.

INSTALLATION/DEINSTALLATION

Coordinates and performs packing, unpacking, and handling of artwork.

In collaboration with Senior registrar, coordinates turnarounds including managing all logistics, schedules, and scheduling turnaround related meetings with the Facilities department. Works with artists to arrange installation details when applicable.

Schedules outside vendors and contractors.

Schedules TARs and project-based exhibition assistants for installation and deinstallation.

Collaborate with other museums personnel to arrange loans and installation details.

Inspects and condition reports incoming and outgoing art.

Assists with occasional special loan projects for temporary exhibitions.

COLLECTION CARE

Assists Senior Registrar with tasks related to permanent collection objects including handling, packing, crating, shipping, movement, preparation, condition reporting, storage, transport, receiving, installation, insurance, and exhibition.

Serves as art courier when needed.

Serves as on-call art emergency responder and art emergency response back-up team leader.

Interfaces with Facilities staff responsible for cleaning floors and other maintenance needs of galleries.

Coordinates regular cleaning of vitrines, pedestals and 3-dimensional art works.

Inspects artworks regularly.

Other duties as assignedQUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor¿s degree, preferably in fine arts, museum management, or related field preferred.

Minimum 2 years¿ experience in museum registration required.

or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Knowledge of standard museum practices for registering, transporting and handling works of art preferred.

Well-developed record-keeping and organizational skills, plus knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel preferred.

Commitment to teamwork-based approach preferred.

Some art history background desirable preferred.

Occasional evening and weekend work required.
