The Director of Maintenance and Environmental Services performs supervisory work in managing the housekeeping/laundry department. The work requires solving operational problems, diagnosing cause of malfunctioning equipment, and planning and implementing work. The Director of Environmental Services supervises a variety of activities in housekeeping and laundry in maintaining the facility in an orderly, clean, and sanitary condition and in processing linens, garments, and other washables through washing and drying cycles.
Director of Maintenance and Environmental Services Duties and Responsibilities:1. Plans, develops, organizes, implements, evaluates and directs the programs and activitiesof the Housekeeping and Laundry Departments.
2. Schedules work to be performed and regulates the flow through various processes toensure the efficient operation of the department.
3. Reviews and evaluates the work performance of assigned personnel and handles anydisciplinary actions necessary according to established corporate policies.
4. Participates in and plans in-service programs, as necessary.
5. Attends department head meetings and required committees.
6. Orders and requests supplies to ensure the effective flow of work processes.
7. Assumes responsibility for budget planning and cost control of Housekeeping and
Laundry Departments.
8. Orients new employees.
9. Prepares departmental payroll accurately according to the payroll practices of the
corporation.
10. Maintains required records and provides legible, concise and timely reports as requested.
11. Concerns his/herself with the safety of all residents and staff in order to minimize thepotential for fire and accidents. Also, ensures that the facility adheres to the legal, safety, health, fire and sanitation codes by being familiar with his/her role in carrying out the facility’s fire, safety and disaster plans and by being familiar with current MSDS.
12. Interacts with customers, families, visitors, facility, and corporate subsidiary personnel.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent as well as supervisory experience.
- Must have prior experience in housekeeping/laundry in a health care setting.
- Must possess good organizational skills.
- Must possess knowledge of budget preparation.
- Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Must have the ability to positively interact with staff, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
