Position SummaryThe Project Manager for Strategic Research Initiatives leads critical projects and assignments to advance major research development projects and strategizing for the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation and the UO’s research enterprise broadly.The Project Manager is responsible for a broad set of assignments related to advancing the mission of OVPRI, which regularly require the ability to exercise independent judgment. The incumbent must possess comprehensive knowledge of the office, its mission, its programs and personnel, and the complex issues that accompany advancing the office’s mission as well as that of the University. This position is critical to enhancing and increasing the UO research enterprise, by enabling research development across the UO through the project management of complex research proposals as well as through the development, planning, and execution of strategic research initiatives.Reporting to and collaborating with the Senior Director for Strategic Research Initiatives, the Project Manager will help UO faculty, administrators, and staff develop competitive external grant proposals, particularly complex, multi-institutional proposals, including those submitted to the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, Department of Energy, Department of Education, USDA, Department of Defense, This position will coordinate teams, develop relevant resources, track progress, and update relevant stakeholders. They will also provide expert support via drafting, copyediting, and providing feedback on proposal components.Additionally, the Project Manager for Strategic Research Initiatives will both generate new ideas and support the Senior Director of Strategic Research Initiatives in executing research development opportunities that position the UO for success in reaching funding, research, and other strategic goals. They will also support competitive internal award programs led by the VPRI.The PM must regularly exercise independent judgment and a comprehensive knowledge of the University of Oregon, its programs, and personnel. This position will work with various teams, which vary by project assignments. The person in the position handles and is involved in many sensitive and confidential issues; is responsible for fostering positive relationships both internal and external to the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation, and is expected to manage multiple, complex tasks and projects and programs often simultaneously, each with their own stakeholders, timelines and deadlines, and deliverables. Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s Degree and at least 4 years year of project management experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred Qualifications Project or program management experience in a higher education environment. Project management certification. Thorough understanding of an institution of higher education and related organizational structures, policies, and procedures; emerging issues in higher education; and familiarity with relevant rules, policies, and laws. Familiarity with federal research funding agencies and proposal development processes. Experience with project management software systems.
