The primary focus of this position is to perform as a Senior Accountant for Pacific Retirement Services, Inc. This person will be responsible for communicating to business office managers at external companies about day-to-day accounting issues, consistency, preparation of audit work papers for external auditors, review of the annual audit, and the month-end close process for several retirement facilities. This individual will also be responsible for developing operating efficiencies, working with external auditors, developing and monitoring key performance indicators, and integrating new business processes and systems into the financial statement close process. This person may also be responsible for training and mentoring Staff Accountants. Emphasis is placed on the promotion of operational efficiency and the responsibility to ensure that accounting transactions are made in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), with adherence to internal controls, state requirements and other administrative policies. This individual will be responsible for the timely communication of issues to their supervisor. Responsible for performance of interim and period end financial accounting, and preparation of the monthly financial statements (in accordance with GAAP) and related reports. Ensures financial data is prepared within assigned deadlines. Compiles all necessary information to ensure all financial statement line items are reconciled and substantiated monthly. The supporting documentation will be utilized in the year-end audit process. Manage the annual audit process with external auditors by developing relationships, providing items requested on the PBC listing, developing a timeline for the facility audit (or PRS audit), understanding the key reporting deadlines, and communicating any issues to the Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller and/or Controller.Responsible for developing relationships with facility accounting personnel, ensuring all necessary documentation is received from facility, and ensuring all accounting information is captured and accounted for. Responsible for preparing or reviewing several key controls over financial reporting, including, but not limited to, bank reconciliations, accounts receivable aging review, accounts payable aging review, capital asset roll forward, capital addition review, expense line item review, depreciation reasonableness review, interest expense reconciliations, accrual estimates, and allowance for doubtful account review. Perform daily cash management for the operating and investment accounts. Reconcile cash and investment accounts on a timely basis. Monitor that business office managers are posting cash timely. Responsible for integrating new business processes within the financial statement close process. Ensure the financial statement close process is consistent among companies. Work with other Senior Accountants and Accounting Managers to ensure consistency among all companies. Responsible for the permanent accounting files and ensuring records are retained in accordance with policies and procedures.Responsible for implementing new accounting systems (if necessary) in order to ensure accurate financial information is captured and reported in conformance with GAAP. Responsible for following policies and procedures that align with GAAP and specific Federal and State requirements. Using applicable guidance, responsible for preparing technical memos to support accounting decisions. Periodically responsible for training and mentoring staff accountants. Also responsible for review of trainees? work.Also requires prior experience in an accounting setting and experience with computerized accounting systems and an advanced knowledge of Excel. Requires a strong understanding of GAAP, business contracts, and other outside reporting principles and regulations. This position requires significant advanced knowledge and / or a four (4) year college degree.
