Share fine art skills in a variety of media with K-8 students

Lead students in proper care and use of art materials

Get paid while supporting students become more fluent in expressing their own ideas through art

Different locations in Beaverton, Tigard and Tualatin

As a Fine Art Starts instructor, you’ll lead classes that kids are excited to attend!

We're a locally operated non-profit fine art school for K-8 students since 1997. We seek energetic, bright individuals to instruct and inspire young artists through demos, hands-on practice, and then applying those skills in final art projects.

Our students look forward to the highlight of their week: ART class! They're excited to come to class and practice their skills! We do not teach craft projects.

Please be available to work 1-3 afternoons per week (whatever fits your schedule), starting at approximately 2:30 PM for 1-1.5 hours per afternoon. GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

Love Art and Kids!

Be a high-energy person

Enjoy and have experience working with groups of children

Have a valid driver’s license and dependable car to get to school locations

Have a fun and outgoing personality while being responsible, dependable and consistent

Have experience with drawing, painting (and a little clay would be great)

Be willing to do a criminal background check and mandatory reporter training

Be able to work independently and on a team

Be able to multi- task, make sound judgments and demonstrate appropriate role modeling

Positive attitude in actions and words

EDUCATION

Associate's and/or Bachelor's Degree in Art, Fine Arts, or Education -and/or- equivalent studio art / life experience to match

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO

Arrive early to the school you’re assigned

Assist students in getting to the room in which you’re instructing

Keep students safe, and report and injuries (emotional/physical) immediately

Offer best tips and examples for students to follow

Instruct step-by-step art lessons that allow for students’ creativity within the project

Uphold the school’s policies/expectations of students and keep students accountable

Prepare materials (paid for and provided by Fine Art Starts), and keep supply bins organized

Keep student portfolios and their artwork safe

Photograph student artwork as requested

Clean up and leave the classroom as clean or better than when you arrived

COMPENSATION

$25-$65 per 1-hour class once a week, dependent on your experience and the enrollment of the course.

This begins as an Independent Contractor position that may become an employment position. At this time no taxes would come out of your paychecks. Instructors will be required to claim and file taxes independently from Fine Art Starts. If your income from teaching exceeds $600 per year, you’ll be provided with a 1099 from Fine Art Starts to include in your tax filing.
