Lead STEM Tutor (3rd-5th Grade)

Location: NE Portland (Alameda)

Compensation: - Competitive hourly rate starting at $30/hour ($40/hour for co-developing curriculum), with room for growth.

Hours: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, 4 hours/day starting at 2:30 PM + potentially more hours

Are you passionate about inspiring the next generation of critical thinkers and innovators? Do you have a strong background in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) and experience working with elementary students? Do you have an entrepreneurial mindset for education and can tackle uncertainties with confidence?

We are seeking a Lead STEM-based Tutor to work with 3rd to 5th graders in an exciting, interactive environment that promotes creativity, hands-on learning, and emotional development.

Job Responsibilities

- Lead engaging, gamified lessons in STEM subjects for 3rd to 5th-grade students.

- Co-develop an engaging curriculum and drive gamification to enhance the “stickiness” of the learning content

- Foster an encouraging and inclusive environment that supports students' problem-solving, creativity, and critical thinking skills.

- Help students develop self-awareness, emotional regulation, and interpersonal skills.

- Monitor student progress and provide meaningful feedback to both students and parents to guide improvement in both academic and emotional areas.

Qualifications

- Experience in tutoring or teaching elementary school students (3rd-5th grade).

- Strong knowledge of STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering, and math).

- Interest in integrating social-emotional learning into teaching practices.

- Adaptable problem solver. If you have been described as being very resourceful, we want to hear from you!

- Ability to manage small group dynamics, build trust, and keep students engaged.

- Passionate about student development and fostering both cognitive and emotional growth.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

- A degree (or working towards a degree) in education, STEM fields, or a related discipline is preferred.
