Westside Sleep Center is owned and directed by Scott D. Fromherz, MD. Dr. Fromherz completed his medical training at Georgetown Medical School and his Neurology Residency at Stanford Medical Center. He went on to complete a 2-year Sleep Medicine Clinical & Research Fellowship at Stanford under the tutelage of some of the world's most accomplished Sleep Medicine researchers. In 2005, Dr. Fromherz returned to his native Oregon where he established a private practice, and simultaneously served as a consultant or director to several Oregon sleep centers. In June 2007, Dr. Fromherz founded Westside Sleep Center, a 4-bed, state-of-the-art sleep facility that serves patients for clinical services, sleep studies and durable medical equipment (DME) services.
Westside Sleep Center (www.WestsideSleep.com), located in Tigard, OR has an excellent On Call opportunity for a Registered/Licensed Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) for an overnight position.
Job Responsibilities:
Providing superior service and care to patients; Maintaining a caring and comforting patient environment and ensuring the safety and welfare of all patients
Reviewing information in patient records, examining orders and protocols for sleep study, acquiring necessary information for pre-study documentation
Educating patients on sleep lab experience, answering questions and addressing any patient concerns
Preparing and calibrating polysomnographic equipment, computers, CPAP machines, oximeters, video-recorders, and other ancillary equipment
Performing proper and safe application and removal of electrodes and other monitoring devices
Performing routine overnight polysomnographic testing, Split studies, CPAP, Bi-Level, and ASV Titrations, MSLT's and MWT's
Monitoring patients and maintaining recordings over a 7-8 hour sleep period and producing and analyzing high-quality sleep recordings
Recognizing sleep pathology and responding with appropriate interventions per sleep lab protocol, including but not limited to, administering nasal continuous positive airway pressure, oxygen, and employing ventilator assist devices.
Keeping thorough, relevant, and neat tech notes; Performing adequate data tabulation to assist physician in the interpretation of sleep studies; Signing out studies to interpreting physician
Maintaining backups and archives of prior studies and a clinical database
Maintaining regular and thorough cleaning/sterilization of equipment, accessories, and work areas, and trouble-shooting any equipment malfunctions
Scoring studies throughout overnight shift
Monitoring, maintaining and reordering sleep lab inventory as necessary
Responsible for all aspects of maintaining compliance with sleep center accreditation
Assisting with preparation of patient bedrooms and laundry
Assisting with the training of new technicians, as assigned
Working overnight shifts independently
Having current BLS and maintaining certification
Complying with Universal Infection Control procedures, and appropriately handling hazardous materials
Performing all other duties and training as assigned
The successful candidate will possess excellent patient-care skills, strong technical and clinical skills, have strong initiative, attention to detail, effective oral and written communication skills, excellent problem solving skills and be able to prioritize and manage time efficiently. Must be able to follow directions and adhere to sleep laboratory procedures and protocols. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and produce timely and accurate work. Must exercise sound judgment in crisis or unexpected situations. Strong computer skills and the ability to continually learn and update existing computer and technical skills, a must. The ability to maintain positive working relationships with co-workers and to work cooperatively with peers is essential, as is the ability to perform his/her role in a team effort. Must take on additional work and/or overtime as needed, and be willing to perform work outside of regular job duties as assigned.
A minimum of a HS diploma or equivalent (GED) is required, however, some post secondary or college education in science or health-related area is preferred. Basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the cardiopulmonary and neurophysiological systems and sleep physiology is required. Scoring experience required, pediatric experience a plus. Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (RPSGT) certification required and must be licensed in Oregon.
