The nursery yard person plays a crucial role in supporting the operations of the nursery by assisting customers, maintaining inventory, and ensuring a positive experience. This role requires a combination of customer service skills, plant knowledge, and physical stamina.
Responsibilities:
1. Customer Assistance:
· Greet customers warmly and assist them in finding plants.
· Assist customers with loading purchases into their vehicles.
2. Inventory Management:
· Receive plant deliveries, unload shipments, and inspect plants for quality and health.
· Organize plants, in the greenhouse for easy access and visual appeal.
3. Sales Support:
· Effectively and clearly communicate consistently with the sales office/staff of customer needs.
· Maintain a clean and organized sales yard environment, including sweeping, watering plants, and removing debris.
4. Plant Care:
· Water, prune, and care for plants to maintain their health and appearance.
· Monitor plants for signs of pests, diseases, or nutrient deficiencies and take appropriate action.
Qualifications:
Previous experience in horticulture REQUIRED
Some knowledge of plants, gardening techniques, and landscaping principles.
Strong communication skills with the ability to interact confidently with customers and staff.
Physical fitness and ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs), bend, stoop, and stand for extended periods.
Bilingual is preferred
Basic computer skills for processing transactions and accessing inventory databases.
