Company :Allegheny Health NetworkJob Description :GENERAL OVERVIEWAssists the Research Investigators in the execution of research protocols involving animals by providing peri-operative support.ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides support and medical record documentation for animal care including daily rounds, physical exams, sample collection, diagnostic tests, health treatments, and research protocol interventions. (20%)

Provides support and medical record documentation in pre-operative preparation, anesthesia management, patient monitoring, post-operative care for a variety of species according to departmental guidelines and protocol requirements. (40%)

Provides assistance to physicians in the human cadaveric educational lab, including but not limited to, procuring and disposing of anatomic specimens, preparation and coordination of the labs, and assisting during labs. (5%)

Maintains and stocks inventory and equipment for the animal operating rooms and anatomical lab services (15%)

Maintains surgical instruments and equipment by scheduling maintenance and keeping documentation. (10%)

Performs sanitation of operating room and operating room support areas. (10%)

Performs other duties as assigned or required.

QUALIFICATIONSMinimum

Graduate of a formal veterinary training program or bachelor’s degree in animal science

2 years of experience in multidisciplinary biomedical research laboratory or veterinary clinic Clinically relevant human experience may also be accepted.

Veterinary surgical nursing experience

Familiarity with sterile technique

Computer literate in Microsoft Suite products

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Preferred

American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) certification

Credentialed Veterinary Technician (CVT or LVT)

Knowledge of animal welfare policy and regulations
