The Intelligent Sensor Technology Department of the Advanced Science and Technology Division within the Communication, Information, and Navigation Office at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State is looking for an Engineering Technologist to support mechanical component testing and equipment integration into existing laboratories. The mission of the IST department is to analyze, design, develop, and prototype sensor systems and networks for all DoD services and national intelligence and other government agencies. Focus being on the development of systems that can support the warfighter in the near-term.ARL is an authorized DoD SkillBridge partner and welcomes all transitioning military members to apply.You Will:Perform assembly operations and fabrication of facility and test equipmentProvide input to and perform design and layout of standard facility and test equipment as directedInspect, test, and calibrate parts and equipment as directedEvaluate the selection of materials, and components based on operational and performance specificationsAssess and identify system faults, and adjust and repair as directedAssist senior technical/engineering staff in gathering, compiling, and archiving test data in the laboratory or in the fieldMay work as part of a test project support team, including selected task leadership roles, in the laboratory, or in the fieldMay develop and provide documentation for task procedures and process evaluationMinimally requires an Bachelors' degree and three years' related experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.Required skills and experience include:SMT solderingPCB troubleshooting skillsCable and wiring harness assemblyHands-on experience in the operation and maintenance of different electrical and/or mechanical test equipment and processesAbility to develop and execute test plansData acquisition and analysisRoboticsElectrical and/or Mechanical designPreferred skills and experience include:PCB layout in multi-layer boards using Altium. RF Experience a plus.SolidworksAn active security clearanceMaintenance of manufacturing equipmentProducing technical documentation related to the design and building of complex systems.Your working location will be fully on-site, located in State College, PA. The proposed salary range may be impacted by geographic differential.The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:
