JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:We are seeking an entry-level Engineer with a mechanical and/or electrical background to join our Embedded Hardware - Software Systems and Applications team in the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State. ARL/Penn State’s purpose is to develop innovative solutions to challenging national problems in support of the Navy, DoD, and Intel communities engineering and technology needs. The SOA Division engages in projects related to hardware/software technologies for autonomous systems, data acquisition and machine learning for asset health monitoring and life cycle management, vehicle cybersecurity and asset improvement and designing and building of integrated prototypes for unique, complex systems. SOA Division projects span from requirements definitions to design, prototype build, test, refinement and full functional testing in the operational and/or military environment. We are a full service, hands-on group that focuses on deliverables.You will:
Perform Failure Modes Effects Analysis (FMEA) on electro-mechanical Systems
Use Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) applications in the manufacturing enviroment
Use Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) analytical tools
Learn and use new hardware and/or software systems based on the requirements of the project
Collaborate with sponsors and engineers to define requirements and establish project related goals and deliverables
Document and communicate all work to allow sharing and team cooperation
Work both individually and in a team environment
Travel occasionally to support projects
Minimally requires a Bachelor's degree in an engineering or science discipline.Required skills and experience in the following areas:
Knowledge in mechanical systems engineering
Knowledge in electronic control and data acquisition systems
Application knowledge of a CAD system (SolidWorks preferred)
Detail oriented
Strong verbal and written communications
