THE POSITIONAre you an architectural professional with a strong interest in revitalization projects and social impact? If so, the Department of Education has an exciting and unique opportunity for you as an Architectural Consultant! Showcase your talents while working with the U.S. Department of Education awarded SASI (Supporting America’s School Infrastructure) Grant Program as an architect who examines facility needs for over 35 high-need school districts across Pennsylvania. DESCRIPTION OF WORKAs an Architectural Consultant, the goal of this program is to ascertain what facility deficiencies exist at high-poverty and rural districts and what funding levels and strategies are required for mitigation. You will apply industry standard assessment criteria to assist the individual districts with immediate and long-term planning and using the data provided to create an inter-district portfolio which will inform the department and General Assembly of uniform deficiencies and trends. A primary focus of this position will be a ssisting high-need districts in understanding design-build and design-bid-build parameters as areas where construction disputes arise, and procurement code compliance requires the expertise of a registered architect. You will participate in developing and implementing improved designs to alleviate construction disputes. This professional also reviews and develops district wide facility studies (DWFS) and building condition assessments (BCA) to ensure they meet state standards and are uniformly applied across districts. F inancial limitations will be reported across all high-need districts to policymakers within the department and at the General Assembly. You will also provide insight and testimony when required by the Department Secretary or General Assembly regarding existing conditions and levels of remediation required to achieve adequacy at high-need districts across the Commonwealth. Full-time employment

Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.

Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, and report to the office every Wednesday. This may be subject to change based upon operational needs. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.

Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITYQUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

One year as an Architectural Designer 2; or

Three years of professional architectural experience in building renovation or preservation and new construction for commercial, institutional, government, or educational buildings or structures, and a bachelor's degree in architecture, architectural engineering, or a closely related field which included major course work in architectural design; or

An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

All positions require active licensure as a registered architect by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania or a reciprocal jurisdiction; or an active certification as issued by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB).
