The Principal Software Engineer/Developer will carry out both Software Development and Production Support responsibilities. The software development responsibilities require an in-depth understanding and deep experience in the use of COBOL, CICS and VSAM. Prior experience in development of high-volume, high-performance CICS applications that execute across multiple CICS regions is required.The role of a Principal Software Engineer/Developer includes participation in an on-call rotation that, together with our counterparts in India, provides 24x7 coverage of a multi-plex, multi-CICS-region runtime environment. Primary ResponsibilitiesAs a Principal Software Engineer/Developer, you will be responsible for the following:• Software design, development, testing and implementation of new and changed software components written in COBOL, performed in keeping with internal team standards. There are both online and batch development tasks that will be performed.• Code review of your own and your teammates’ work.• Create and update new and existing Design Documentation and Test Plans.• Create and maintain new and changed configuration data that controls runtime behavior of the infrastructure code in multiple execution environments (e.g.: Unit Test, QA, Prod).• Provide coaching and mentoring of less senior staff.• Participate in a production support on-call rotation (approx. 5 weeks per year, from 08:00 – 20:00 daily during that week)• Provide support to application development teams in the use of our infrastructure software. Education and Experience:To be successful in this role you should possess:• 15+ years of experience with COBOL/CICS/VSAM programming within the z/OS environment• Prior success in designing, developing and leading Application Development efforts• Prior experience using the Agile methodology• A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Development or Engineering is a plus, but not required.Skills, Experience, Knowledge:The following skills, experience and knowledge are required or preferred (as indicated) when applying for this role.Required:• z/OS COBOL/CICS/VSAM• Batch z/OS COBOL/JCL• TSO/ISPF• Prior experience building data-driven solutions• Prior experience providing production support on-call coverage• The ability to Multi-taskVacancy expired!
