Sr. Mechanical Equipment DesignerIntroductionMerrick & Company is looking for Senior Mechanical Equipment Designer for our Aiken, SO office to work on technology projects for the Department of Energy (DOE). This group specializes in the design of prototype/one-off custom equipment, gloveboxes, hot cells, specialty research equipment and custom-designed, remotely-operated mechanisms for handling radioactive and hazardous materials. This is a full time permanent position.Job DescriptionSenior designer works directly with and organizes small teams to produce 3D models, drawings and fabrication packages of custom equipment, independently and with direction from the project engineer. Typical equipment includes containment systems (gloveboxes, hot cells, cleanrooms), material handling equipment, small scale process piping & equipment, furnace systems, metal working systems (mills, lathes, rolling machines) and pressure vessels.Scope/Key ResponsibilityDetailed design activities include preparation of component, subassembly and main assembly Creo (Pro/E) models; creating detailed fabrication drawing packages; evaluating and selecting purchased components; creating detailed Bills of Materials and completing equipment datasheets. Establishes model structure and drawing tree architecture for distinct deliverables and is responsible for establishing and maintaining file naming conventions and Windchill folders. Directs the activities of less experienced team members to produce final product. Provides checking support for deliverables. Design activities are conducted following regimented quality assurance / quality control procedures.Required Experience

Minimum of eight (8) years’ experience in related field.

Must demonstrate expert proficiency with Creo (Pro/E) and Windchill is required.

Familiarity with other 3D systems (CATIA, SolidWorks or equal), 2D software (AutoCAD preferred) and Autodesk Revit a plus.

Microsoft Office Suite.

Demonstrated experience leading small groups of designers a plus.

Demonstrated capability in the design of custom equipment and/or containment systems, development of design documentation including fabrication drawings, equipment datasheets.

Experience in the DOE and DOD market segments a plus. Hands-on experience with fabrication techniques a plus.

Degree Requirements: Associates Degree (Preferred)

US Citizenship required.

Must have the ability to acquire a security clearance.

Local candidate preferred.

Previous experience with client projects is a plus.

Physical Requirements

The job requires the ability to sit for extended periods at a computer workstation. Ability to support work site visits that require walking and standing for extended periods a plus.
