Review the position below and apply today.Job SummaryDominion Energy South Carolina has openings for Apprentice Linemen for Electric Transmission Operations in the Denmark, SC area. Selected candidates will be responsible for assisting with the construction, operation, and maintenance of overhead and electric lines on our transmission system.Responsibilities include:
Consistently adhere to safety rules to work in proximity of high and low voltage electric equipment
Regularly climb and work from power poles 50-225 feet or more, and other tall structures
Safely handle heavy/bulky equipment and materials
Be available to respond to work after hours, scheduled overtime, callouts and urgent needs 24 hours/day, 7 days/week
Work outside in inclement weather conditions
Successfully complete the four (4) year apprenticeship training program which includes both written and hands-on instruction
This position pays a starting hourly rate of $24.86.Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & ExperienceMinimum Requirements (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications):
0-2 years of directly related experience
High School diploma or GED
Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Valid driver's license with a good driving history
Ability to obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL-Class A) within six (6) months of hire
Excellent physical condition, strong mechanical skills, and the ability to work long hours during emergency or storm restoration situations
Be available to work after hours, scheduled overtime, and callout work
Live within a 25-mile radius (or 30-minute drive) of the position’s service territory/work location
Be physically and mentally capable of climbing and working from utility poles
Education RequirementsCompletion of high school or equivalent (i.e., GED) is required.Licenses, Certifications, or Quals DescriptionMust have a valid driver's license with a safe driving history. Must be able to lift materials weighing at least 50lbs
Operate heavy machinery/equipment involving heavy loads
Manually pulling on a hand line while hoisting materials
Climbing at least 50-225 ft poles using hooks, (attachments strapped to the boot that penetrates utility poles
Set anchors by hand (8 ft long, 15-inch flange)
Operate an extendo stick (15 lbs.)
Manually operate post-hole diggers to excavate holes up to 6 feet deep
Install equipment weighing 500-750lbs via line truck or with blocks while positioned on upper section of utility pole
Operate a pump gun
Must be able to bend, squat, crawl, kneel, site, push/pull
Must be able to walk, stand, and climb on unlevel terrain on a daily basis
Must be able to reach above shoulder level, use fine finger movements, and maintain balance
Must be able to handle heights
Drive a ground rod with sledgehammer
