About our opportunityThe York County Culture and Heritage Museum is excited to hire a full-time, exempt, Planetarium Manager to join their team! The purpose of this position is to research, purchase, edit, and present planetarium programs and other science-based programs for a full dome planetarium. This position also develops, coordinates, and presents related events to complement the CHM mission.Projected Hiring Range:$44,105.81 - $46,311.10 per year. Compensation is determined based on qualifications.Work Schedule:Tuesday - Saturday schedule, generally 40 hours per week. There may be occasional night and weekend work related to planetarium programming outside of normal operating hours.Our Total Compensation Package:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Researches, purchases, edits, and presents regular planetarium programs for school groups and the general public, including programming, development, and production of on-line components and shows; and related technological functions.

Stays current on astronomy and NASA events. Serves as astronomy Subject Matter Expert for individuals, groups, and organizations.

Develops and executes special programs based on international astronomical events and programs with an astronomy/science theme; coordinates public telescope viewings and other off-hours educational programs, on and off campus; works in coordination with other staff to develop and present such programs.

Working with other education staff members, may develop and present science classes and programs (astronomy-based) for public and school groups as needed.

Serves as a resource of the news media and the public for planetarium programs and astronomical events.

Develops and monitors program budget.

Manages Share Point master calendar entries, planning of short- and long-range programs for marketing, departmental records, program evaluations, budgeting, and all other standard duties related to planetarium programming

Works with departments to identify and assist with grant and sponsorship opportunities.

Responsible for maintenance and upkeep of all planetarium equipment

Performs related work as assigned.

About youEducation and Experience Requirements:

Masters Degree in Physics, Chemistry, Astronomy or related discipline.

Three (3) years of experience in science, communications, teaching or related field or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Special Certifications and Licenses:

Preference is to possess and maintain a valid state drivers license
