Manufacturing EngineerPosition DescriptionJob SummaryThe Saint-Gobain Superabrasives- North America, manufacturing facility in Travelers Rest, South Carolina is the manufacturing site for diamond dressing tools and direct plated grinding products serving high volume operations such as automotive, aerospace, and the bearing industry and machine manufacturer. The products manufactured are in the form of rotating wheels, in diameters ranging from .500 to 1067 mm, and they are used to shape materials that are too hard or too fragile for conventional abrasives. They are manufactured by using a variety of precision manufacturing methods and are used for producing parts in a large number of machine tooling applications, primarily in the aerospace and automobile industries. We are seeking an experienced, highly motivated, results oriented manufacturing professional to join our team within the Traveler’s Rest manufacturing facility.JOB DESCRIPTION:

In a fast paced, service-oriented manufacturing environment, the candidate will work within a framework of specific assignment objectives to develop improved products and processes. Projects will be designed to assist the plant in increasing production, improving quality, or reducing cost through process, product, equipment materials and/or methods of development and improvement. Key areas of accountability will be as follows:

1. Determine process capability, equipment and methods to improve processes.

2. Involved with the planning/completion of capital projects for the facility.

3. Provide technical support to manufacturing personnel to solve daily problems and establish safeguards to minimize their occurrences.

4. Assist in recommending new process equipment or the upgrade of current equipment or lines.

5. Responsible for manufacturing documentation and monitoring machine tool forming compliance within the ISO 9001 standard.

6. Develop and implement CAR’s including method of tracking to realize ROI.

7. Establish plans to correct or cancel projects that do not or will not meet objectives.

8. Be able to organize, provide leadership, and/or participate in a team environment.

9. Focus on Safety and environmental regulations.Required QualificationsCOMPETENCIES REQUIRED:The successful candidate should possess the following requirements: BSME or BSEE in mechanical or electrical engineering with 5-8 years’ experience in manufacturing operations. Project Management certified (Strong project leadership and document management skills).

Strong familiarity with CNC and other precision machining (.0127 mm tolerances or better).

Knowledge of engineering principles and theories and their application to pursue complex projects using precision metrology equipment (CMM, Vision Inspection, GD&T) Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal and computer skills.

Experience in PLC, HMI controls and SPC software is desirable, as is a working knowledge of the ISO 9000 standard.

Understanding in generating PFMEA’s, DOEs, process sheets, control plans and DFM as well as creating machine specifications, purchases, runoffs, installs and the ability to launch product into production. Ability to evaluate and develop process input and output controls to measure and improve Cpk.

Experience in manufacturing under the philosophy of lean manufacturing is highly desirable; a Green or Black Belt is a plus.

Working knowledge of the AutoCAD family of software and Inventor or Solidworks is a plus.

Working knowledge of CAM software IE: NX-CAM, MasterCam and Esprit is a plus.

Working knowledge of SAP (ERP/MRP) Business One enterprise resource planning is a plus.

Experience in a plating operation would be a plus.

Ability to be self-directed and work in a cross-functional team (Manufacturing - Sales – Research and Engineering) environment is essential as well as work effectively with all levels of the organization both on individual and team projects.
