Job Summary:
Performs structured evaluations and develops a treatment plan in conjunction with primary care counselor
using therapeutic, recreational, and leisure activities for RRMC psychiatric patients and RRMC and TMC Swing
Bed patients. LMSW has oversight for all activities
Job Duties:
Conducts assessment and establishes recreational therapy treatment goals and objectives to meet the
individual needs of psychiatric patients and swing bed patients.
Evaluates each patient's progress and the effectiveness of recreational therapy interventions
Coordinates therapeutic recreation activities for both large and small groups to observe patient response and
encourage socialization.
Provides patient and patient's family with information regarding leisure life styles and creates an awareness of
recreational resources in their community.
Handle with Care participation annually or CPI participation every 2 years.
Job Requirements:
Minimum Education
High School Diploma or GED preferred.
Associate’s degree in Health/Physical Education or Recreational Therapy preferred.
Required Skills
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be
able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
American Heart Association or American Red Cross Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90
days of employment.
Minimum Work Experience
One year experience with psychiatric patients and swing bed patients delivering activity therapies.
